Fantastic Yoga Community, always. “Tribe”, no more.

When we founded NOLA Tribe Yoga, we loved the concept of creating a tight knit, like-minded, low-barrier, unassuming yoga community that was inviting to any and all New Orleanians. Yoga was  what we loved and would be the connection point for people of different backgrounds within a healthful and mindful community. At the time we chose the term “Tribe” as a way to encapsulate that feeling and belief. However, we all know that over the past year a greater conversation has been reignited about inclusivity and how certain words lead to the perpetuation of stereotypes and alienation. The word Tribe is, in essence, fueling the opposite of our intention. If there’s anything we have learned from this past year, it is “When you know better, you should do better”. We know better than to have this word define us as a community. Therefore, we have made the difficult but purposeful decision to rebrand with the desire of removing the word Tribe from our company name.

Over the past 5 years, yogis from all different foregrounds & futures have come together to flow. YOU yogis have created a beautiful mosaic of quirks & qualities, bringing your own wildly different and wildly authentic selves to the mat each and every day. We have watched as all of this fabulousness has melded into one common feeling, association, state or what we like to call... A VIBE.

We are excited to unite under the new brand NOLA Vibe Yoga. The same friendly, social, inclusive yoga community. The same upbeat, positive, silly energy you’ve come to love. Hosting yoga in the best community spaces New Orleans has to offer. We hope you’ll choose to join us on our journey, because y’all… It’s. A. Vibe.

Feel free to share the love and/or share your feedback. We will always and forever be a company with our community at the core of every decision we make. We hope this change comes with open hearts and minds.

The Trouble with Tribe

We would consider it a miss if we didn't offer the opportunity for our community to learn more about how Western use of the word "Tribe" can be troubling to Africans and Native Americans today.

Here's what we have found to be the most concise article on the subject:

While this rebrand of ours is not a world shattering decision that will solve cultural ignorance, we believe it to be a small, positive step in the right direction.
